7 Chakras Cheat Sheet

Energy is all around you and inside of you.  Everything you touch, smell, see, or hear is made up of vibrational energy.

It’s the blueprint of reality.

It’s this same energy that makes up your physical body. In order for your body to function, it absorbs energy from the Universe through 7 gateways in your body known as Chakras.

Each Chakra then passes that energy along to specific areas in your physical body, powering all of your bodily functions and providing you with information about the world around you.

They also pass energy into your emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies, also known as your Aura Layers.  More on that later.

Your 7 Chakras connect to the main current of energy in your body that follows the line of your spine.

7 Major Chakras

Here are the 7 Major Chakras starting from the base of your tailbone and running to the crown of your head:

  1. Root Chakra: Bottom of tailbone
  2. Sacral Chakra: Lower back
  3. Solar Plexus Chakra: Above navel
  4. Heart Chakra: Center of chest
  5. Throat Chakra: Throat/neck
  6. Third Eye Chakra: Forehead
  7. Crown Chakra: Above head

Each one plays a critical role in your well being, and they also work together in harmony to keep your energy flowing smoothly.

Now let’s look at what a Chakra actually is…

What is a Chakra?

A Chakra is a spinning vortex that absorbs Universal Energy, the limitless supply of energy that exists all around you.  It resembles a tiny tornado.

Chakras pull this energy inside you and send it to various places in your body to keep you healthy.

At the center of each Chakra, there’s a root that connects into the main current of energy (your spine), and a seal that controls how much energy travels in and out.

Broken, torn, and blocked seals disrupt the natural flow of energy and result in discomfort, disease, and illness in your physical and spiritual bodies.

For example, I once had a blockage in my Throat Chakra that caused me to have Laryngitis and I lost my voice… Once I discovered this issue, I was able to heal myself and could speak clearly again.

Most Chakras have two different aspects (front and rear), drawing energy in from the front of your body to serve one purpose, and then drawing additional energy through the back body to serve another purpose.

Front & Rear Chakras

The front aspects of the Chakras are related to your feelings, while the rear aspects correlate with your will. And the three Chakras in your head are related to your mental processes and reasoning.

There are two Chakras that do not have a front and rear aspect, the Root and the Crown. That’s because they are actually opposite aspects to each other, the Root angled to the Earth, and the Crown angled to the Heavens.

Here’s how you can easily find each of the Chakras in your body...

Location of the 7 Major Chakras

Meditation

The 7 Chakras follow the path of your spine, from your tailbone all the way up to the crown of your head. Starting from the very bottom…

Root Chakra: The Root Chakra is located at the base of your spine. When you are sitting down, feel where your tailbone touches the floor… That is where your Root Chakra sits.

Sacral Chakra: Next is the Sacral Chakra, named for its location at the sacrum. There is a bone on your low back that sits right between your two hip bones. If you place your hand there, you’ll find both your sacrum and your Sacral Chakra.

Solar Plexus Chakra: The third energy center is just above your navel, right around your low ribs. It’s your Solar Plexus Chakra.

Heart Chakra: Moving up about 6 inches to the center of your chest, you’ll find your Heart Chakra. Our physical hearts are on the left side of our body, but our energetic heart center is right in the middle.

Throat Chakra: Place your hand right above where your collar bones meet. Do you feel that little indent? That’s about where your Throat Chakra sits.

Third Eye Chakra: Moving up into the head, first you have your Third Eye Chakra. It is in the center of your forehead, just above the space between your eyebrows.

Crown Chakra: And finally, we have the Crown Chakra. It’s located just above your head. Imagine you were royalty wearing a crown… in the middle of that crown would be your seventh Chakra.

In order to be healthy in all aspects of your life, you need to make sure your Chakras are properly absorbing and powering your body with Universal Energy. Here’s how that’s done...

Chakra Balancing Explained

In Energy Healing arts, such as Reiki, we seek to create an even flow of energy through all 7 Chakras to maintain optimal health.

Ideally, you want all 7 of your Chakras to be balanced and open so that you can feel physically, spiritually, and emotionally well.

When your Chakras are balanced and open, they are able to draw enough energy into your body so that it can be used to keep you healthy.

When you have the correct amount of energy flowing through your body, you are healthy.

So it becomes a problem when Chakras are imbalanced or blocked, limiting the supply of energy that your body receives.

You can use a number of ways to tell if a Chakra has an imbalance including:

  • Looking at your physical symptoms…
  • Scanning your Aura for negative energy and blockages…
  • Analyzing issues in different aspects of your life...
  • And, determining the direction your Chakra is spinning...

Twirling Girl

Healthy, open, and balanced Chakras rotate clockwise, allowing them to draw energy in from the Universal Energy Field so that it can be metabolized in the body.

Unhealthy, closed, and imbalanced Chakras have a vortex that spins counterclockwise, blocking both vital energy and information from entering the body.

It’s these closed off or damaged energy centers that cause you migraines, heart disease, digestive issues, and other illnesses.

But the good news is that your pain and disease can help you identify which energy center is unbalanced because each Chakra is responsible for specific parts of your body.

For example, your Third Eye Chakra helps you think clearly when it is open and clear, but it can cause migraines and sleepless nights when it’s blocked…

I mentioned earlier that you can also detect energy imbalances in the Chakras by looking at your Aura.  Here’s what I mean...

The 7 Layers of the Aura and the 7 Chakras

Your Aura is the collection of energy that both surrounds and weaves throughout your physical body. It’s almost like the glow of light that comes from the flame of a candle.

Each of the 7 layers of your Aura is powered by its own Chakra… Imagine each Chakra as a tiny film projector and its Aura as the image it creates.

Aura

Each Chakra and Aura Layer works together to balance the energy in your system and keep you feeling alive and happy.

Let’s look at what each pair of Aura layer and Chakra relate to in your body:

  1. Root Chakra & Etheric Layer: Physical functioning
  2. Sacral Chakra & Emotional Body: Emotional aspects
  3. Solar Plexus Chakra & Mental Body: Logical thinking
  4. Heart Chakra & Astral Layer: Capacity for human love
  5. Throat Chakra & Etheric Template: Higher will and actions
  6. Third Eye Chakra & Celestial Body: Ability to love all forms of life
  7. Crown Chakra & Ketheric Template: Higher mind and spiritual connection

Nature

So you may be wondering why this connection between the Chakras and Aura Layers is important...

It’s actually VERY important because the health of your Aura is directly related to whether or not your Chakras are balanced

Each layer of the Aura will tell you exactly how healthy its corresponding Chakra is because your Aura contains important information from your Chakras.

For example, you may have a cloud of dark energy in your Emotional Aura Layer causing feelings of depression. You can clear up the negative energy and get rid of the symptoms by correcting the energy flow in its corresponding Chakra (the Sacral Chakra).

Read that last paragraph again. It’s the basis on how all Energy Healing works, and one of the main reasons to understand the Chakras.

Next, let’s dip our toes into the mystery of your physical and spiritual halves...

The Spiritual and Physical Planes

The 7 Major Chakras are divided into 3 categories: upper Chakras, lower Chakras, and the bridge.

The lower 3 Chakras—the Root, Sacral, and Solar Plexus—operate in the physical plane. That means that they control feelings, emotions, and thoughts that happen here on Earth.

In the concrete world, you may feel pain in your arm, feel love toward your family, or decide what job you want to have. But there is so much more than just what is visible on this plane…

Spiritual

The upper 3 Chakras—the Throat, Third Eye, and Crown—function in the spiritual plane. That means that they perceive higher senses, emotions, and thoughts that come from the wider universe.

The spiritual plane is much larger than just the things we can see on a physical level. It is home to beings that exist in the universe around us without having a physical body to inhabit.

In the spiritual plane, you have a higher sense of knowing… you’re able to perceive things beyond just what you see in front of you.

In order for physical energies to transform into spiritual energies, and vice versa, they must first pass through the fire of your heart. Your Heart Chakra acts as the bridge that connects the two planes.

The upper Chakras are associated with energies that vibrate at a much higher frequency than the lower Chakras. So as the energy moves along your spine, it has to pass through your Heart Chakra in order to match the frequency of the plane it is traveling to.

For example, energy traveling up from your Root will pass through the Heart so that it can be raised to a higher vibration that the spiritual plane can recognize.

When energy travels down from your Crown Chakra to your Root Chakra, you are able to manifest your thoughts and ideas into reality. A blockage in any of the Chakras along the way can cause problems, making it difficult for you to achieve your goals.

Now that we’ve looked at how everything works together, let’s dive into the details of each of the 7 Chakras individually and how they affect your life...

1. The Root Chakra

Your Root Chakra acts as your physical connection to the Earth. Imagine this energy center as roots of a tree… anchoring you into the ground.

Your physical existence lives in this Chakra, and it’s also the foundation of your survival, strength, and basic human needs. This Chakra perceives touch, movement, and physical sensations like pain, ability to balance, or shivers along the spine.

Instead of having a pair of front and rear energy vortexes, the Root Chakra is paired with the Crown Chakra. They are located at the bottom and top of the spine, respectively.

Together, they form the endpoints for the spine, which is the major source of energy flow in the body and the place where all the other Chakras connect into.

Your Root pulls Universal Lifeforce Energy in through the bottom of your spine so that it can travel to the higher Chakras, and eventually out the top of your head through the Crown.

The color of the first Chakra is red, and it is associated with the Earth element. You might have heard your yogi friends refer to it as Muladhara

This energy center is responsible for the health of your spinal column, kidneys, and immune system.

Root Chakra

If your Root Chakra is balanced, you’ll be confident, feel like you’re in control of your life, and be full of the will to live.

But when your Root Chakra is unbalanced, it can lead to irrational fears, unhealthy cravings, constipation, and obesity… You may also feel ungrounded or like you’re not connected to this world.

In Reiki Healing, it’s common to start at the Root and work your way up so that you have a clear connection to the Earth that allows energy to flow freely to the rest of the Chakras.

It’s very important to make sure this Chakra is balanced because it is your connection to the Earth and the foundation you use to build your higher, more spiritual self.

Next let’s move on to the Chakra that’s responsible for the health of your emotions…

2. The Sacral Chakra

Also known as the dwelling place of the self, your Sacral Chakra allows you to perceive both positive and negative emotions… Anything from love to hate... joy to sorrow... compassion to fear...

Your Sacral Chakra is associated with the color orange and the water element. It is also the center for your creativity, fluidity, freedom, and desire.

Sacral Chakra

The frontal aspect of this Chakra is at the center of your pubic bone, and it influences your quality of intimate love and your physical, mental, and spiritual pleasure.

The second Chakra, sometimes called Svadhisthana, regulates your reproductive system… so the rear aspect, which is associated with your will, controls the quantity of sexual energy you have.

A balanced Sacral Chakra will allow you to be warm and friendly, have stable emotions, and create meaningful relationships with those around you. And you’ll be satisfied with your physical and emotional love life.

An energy imbalance in this Chakra will show up as extreme emotional outbursts, depression, lack of creativity, sexual dysfunction, and reproductive disorders….

Does any of this sound like something you’re experiencing? If so, I may be able to help you discover a way to create more fulfilling relationships.

Now that you understand your Root and Sacral Chakras, let’s move to the action-oriented Chakra…

3. The Solar Plexus Chakra

Welcome to your powerhouse. Your gut feelings, willpower, and fierce drive are all governed by your third Chakra.

Associated with fire, this yellow vortex of energy helps you stay focused and motivated as you create the life you want.

It’s connected with your stomach, liver, gallbladder, and nervous system. So any imbalances in the Manipura Chakra can result in health issues in these vital organs.

On the front side of your body, you have the feeling center that is associated with your expansiveness and connection to the universe.

The rear element of this Chakra corresponds with your diaphragm to help shape your perception of your overall well being and sense of healing.

Solar Plexus Chakra

A healthy Solar Plexus Chakra can be seen as having faith in your own power to create the life you desire. You’ll also be motivated and be connected to your sense of purpose.

If there is a block in this Chakra, you’ll start to become judgmental and controlling, develop poor self-esteem, become obsessed with perfection, or experience digestive issues.

We’ve covered the three lower Chakras… these are your keys to health in the physical world. Now we can begin the journey beyond…

4. The Heart Chakra

Your center for universal compassion, also referred to as Anahata, is your Heart Chakra. It’s a green vortex associated with air.

The fourth Chakra is unique because it provides a bridge between the physical plane and the spiritual realm. It integrates the energy of the lower three Chakras with the energy of the upper three Chakras.

Heart Chakra

This energy center is in control of your heart, blood, and circulatory system. It’s also connected to your vagus nerve, which is a key part of helping you feel completely and totally relaxed.

On the front of your body, your Heart Center controls the feelings of love, compassion, and caring that you have toward the people around you. It also relates to your sense of openness in life.

Right between your shoulder blades, the rear aspect of this Chakra links to your ego and how your will interacts with the outer world.

You’ll feel joyful, empathetic, and accepting of all people when your fourth Chakra is balanced. But an energy imbalance will result in antisocial tendencies, manipulative behaviors, heart disease, or breathing problems.

It’s so important to make sure your Heart Chakra is functioning properly…

If not, then you’ll have a pretty hard time trying to find fulfillment and a true sense of purpose in your life because your connection to your higher self will be blocked!

Would you like some help in opening the bridge to your spiritual being? I can show you how in my Full Body Healing Sessions

If your bridge from the physical plane to the spiritual realm is clear, you’ll be able to move to the Chakra that helps you speak your truth…

5. The Throat Chakra

Your Throat Chakra is your center for communication. Also called Vishuddha, it’s a blue energy center that is connected with the ether element.

Even though it’s the fifth Chakra along your spine, this is the first one that functions in the spiritual plane because it’s the first of your three upper Chakras.

The front of this energy center is associated with receiving information and assimilating it into your life, while the back controls your sense of self.

The fifth Chakra relates to the health of your lungs, gastrointestinal tract, and vocal chords. So it’s not uncommon to see things like thyroid disorders, a sore throat, and chronic neck/shoulder pain in someone who has a blocked Throat Chakra.

Throat Chakra

When this energy center is open and clear, you’ll be able to clearly express your ideas, speak your truth, offer sound advice, and communicate authentically.

But an imbalance in the Throat Chakra is associated with someone who lies, engages in too much gossip, fears the truth, and is verbally abusive.

The previous 5 Chakras have made up your feeling and will centers. As we move into the head, we move into the energy centers that control your reasoning and intellect...

6. The Third Eye Chakra

The sixth Chakra is responsible for your sixth sense, or intuition… its the home of your psychic abilities… it controls everything that goes on in your mind—your ideas, thoughts, goals, and dreams.

Intuition, memory, and visualization are all connected to this indigo Chakra, which governs your lower brain, left eye, ears, nose, and nervous system.

This Chakra is called Ajna in Sanskrit (ancient language of India), and is the first of your mental centers, meaning it’s related to your intellectual abilities. It’s also related to the element of light.

The front of the Third Eye is responsible for your ability to make sense of and visualize thoughts and ideas. The Mental Executive in the rear controls your capacity to successfully carry out your plans in a meaningful way.

Third Eye Chakra

Having a balanced Third Eye Chakra allows you to tune into your intuition, think clearly, and make decisions based on the values that are important in your life.

A blockage in this Chakra will result in an overly analytical mind, distrust of others, anxiety, insomnia, migraines, or vision problems.

Now we have reached the final Chakra...

7. The Crown Chakra

It’s time to connect with your highest self

You are one with the Universe… You are Divine Consciousness… You are a Spiritual Being…

These feelings come from your Crown Chakra. This violet energy center is where you find a deeper sense of self, uncover your life’s true purpose, and feel at one with all that is.

Crown Chakra

Like the Root Chakra, your Crown does not have a front and back. It simply opens upward so that you can connect to Universal Energy.

The final Chakra, known as Sahasrara, is the home for your spirituality and manages your upper brain and right eye. It’s connected to the element of space or spirit.

An open Crown Chakra gives you the ability to understand your connection to others, be empathetic toward all beings, and uncover your spiritual path.

Imbalances in this Chakra create confusion, an attachment to the material world, inability to find your connection to the divine, an endless feeling of exhaustion, and spinal diseases.

Now that you have a deeper understanding of the Chakras and what each one does, you may have discovered that one, or a few, of your Chakras are in need of some Energy Healing…
