The Reiki Master's Guide To Meditation

Header

Meditation can be a difficult practice for many people.

Whenever I teach Reiki classes, I often tell my students that if they're trying to meditate...

...they're doing it wrong.

Meditation is the process of letting go.

It is not the process for holding onto old thoughts, habits, or behaviors.

You need to relinquish the need for control...

...and allow the natural energetic mindstate operate as it should - free from the mental disturbances of our mind.

This is how meditation can help us, but the fact is that most people have the process completely backwards.

Worst of all, most people don't even meditate at all!

It goes without saying that meditation provides us with extreme health benefits that range from countering weight gain to manifesting our goals and dreams.

When I started Reiki over 10 years ago, I never imagined that meditation would seep so deeply into my practice...

...but it was only then did I realize how much it supercharged my Reiki healing.

It's no wonder that the Japanese remain ahead of Westerners when it comes to Reiki or any kind of energy medicine - they've mastered this art.

I had to travel in search of great teachers in order to learn what meditation was and how to practice it correctly.

And in this blog post, I'm going to reveal several meditation techniques shown to me by the grandmasters of the art.

First, we begin with your purpose...

Your Meditation Intent

Why do you want to begin meditating?

Is it because of your friends, your teacher, or simply something you found?

Whatever your reasons are, it is important to realize that the way in is not always the way out.

What this means is that you may begin practicing meditation for any variety of reasons.

Perhaps you want to lose weight...

...or you want to recover from the daily stresses of life...

...or you simply want to find a way to relax.

There are an infinite number of reasons why someone would want to begin meditation, but this usually transforms over a certain amount of time.

We call this, "The Transformation of Desire To Intent."

In other words, although you may begin meditation with other goals in mind, it is often the case that you will begin to seek a deeper journey with meditation.

For me, I started meditating because I wanted a stronger Reiki energy field and better channeling powers.

But what I realized over time was that, through meditation, I was able to forge a stronger connection with Universal Energy...

...and that my purpose for meditation grew into what I call, "The Intent To Transform The World."

Now, you don't need to get as deep as that - meditation can be just as enjoyable for the fun of it.

The beauty of the practice is that any activity or moment can be used for meditation.

Whether you're washing the dishes, reading a book, or running - any of these moments can serve as moments to meditate.

However, how do you know if you're doing it right? Can you feel the benefit?

Here are some tried and true tips that will help you make the most of your meditation practice, even if you're a complete beginner.

Carve Out The Time To Meditate

Now, it can be easy to WANT to meditate.

But what about actually doing it?

The easiest way to begin meditating is to do less than you think you can.

What does this mean?

If you think you can do 10 minutes of meditation...do 5 instead.

The reason why this works is quite ingenious.

The first reason is that for many, meditation feels like a task to be accomplished or something to be checked off of the checklist.

However, I think that's the wrong way to think about meditation.

Meditation should feel like an indulgence...as if you're never getting enough of it.

So when you approach meditation in this regard, you always want to do more.

They're the result of over 10000+ hours of meditation and I'd love to share them with you.

This will help you cultivate the habit of actually meditating more consistently everyday than if you were to try meditating for 30 minutes right out of the gate.

That could lead to burnout...and worsen your energy levels.

Carve the time out to meditate by putting it in your calendar way in advance...

...and defend that time as much as you can.

Do less than you think you can so that you always want to do more.

If you only have enough time for 1 minute of meditation (and everyone has at least one minute)...

...do 30 seconds instead.

This will help you carve the time and gradually bring your practice to life.

Lanterns

I recommend that you begin meditating first thing in the morning, as this is the time to start your day refreshed and with kind energy.

Starting in the morning can help you realign your energy field and clear any blockages from the day prior.

In addition, a morning meditation just feels good.

Remember that meditation is a way to restore balance and charge your energetic field.

If you do this in the morning, your day will be surely set up for success.

Next, we will learn some techniques that you can begin using TODAY.

The Gassho Meditation

Dr. Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki, taught his students how to do Gassho Meditation.

Sadly, this art was lost over the last few decades...but those who really do their research know the power of Gassho Meditation.

Gassho, in Japanese, simply means, "two hands coming together."

This type of meditation can be used throughout the day, but is most often used in the morning and evening.

If you want to begin Gassho Meditation, remember to do less than you think you can.

This will help your energy levels adapt to the new change without too sudden of a transformation.

Gassho is simply one way of quieting the mind and stabilizing your innate energetic systems...

Sunset

To practice Gassho Meditation, simply place your hands together in prayer position.

Find a nice place to sit, lay down, or even stand.

Breathe in and recite the words "I am present" as you exhale.

Continue this for however you like.

When the mind begins to think of different thoughs, you can either bring your attention back to the phrase "I am present" or gently press your fingers together in the prayer position.

Do not berate yourself if your mind wanders off into some tangential stream of thought - simply bring your mind back home and allow it to rest.

Again, do less than you think you can so that your energy has time to acclimate to the new practice.

The last thing that you want is for your energy to burn out.

Next, we'll learn the Water Meditation Technique...

The Water Meditation Technique

This technique was first used by the Japanese buddhist monks to cleanse their aura through their hands.

Dr. Mikao Usui used this to empower the hands of his students and those who sought his healing.

To do this, simply boil some water and let it cool down.

This will remove the water of its spiritual impurities and act as a cleansing agent.

Place the water into a small bowl.

You may want to do this over a sink or some place that won't get wet.

Place your hands palms down into the bowl...

...and allow your hands to rest there for a few moments.

Turn your hands back over and gently cup some water into your hands.

Raise your hands above the bowl, and allow all the water to sink back into the bowl.

Everytime you lift water out of the bowl, inhale...

...and as you let it drip, exhale out.

Feel free to wipe your hands throughout and feel the cleansing properities of the Water Meditation rush over your hands.

If the water is too hot or too cold, let it cool down or place it somewhere warm like in the sun's light.

State your intention or ask your question.

Sit quietly with this energy for 5-15 minutes.

If your mind wanders, simply invoke the name of the power symbol three times and visualize it.

When you finish, acknowledge that you are holding the full light of the Reiki energy and it will be with you through your day.

Write notes about your experience in a journal.

Include any thoughts, words, images or feelings that came to you.

Do this even if there seems to be no logic to it.

Shoshin

These two techniques are some of the most powerful meditation techniques that you can use on a daily basis to recharge your energy and boost your mood.

Don't forget to read the instructions in complete detail, as there may be something that you missed.

Failing to take in a certain step or two will result in compromised energy...which is something that you want to avoid at all costs.
